Leadership Conference: EDtalks 2017

The VASSP annual leadership conference aims to promote learning from within the profession and beyond. The opening keynote will be delivered by Professor Yong Zhao who will expand on his most recent theme, ‘shifting the education paradigm’. Yong has been visiting Victoria for over ten years and is an inspirational speaker.

Other keynotes include the internationally acclaimed futurist, Gihan Perera, and Director of the Education Leadership Academy at High Tech High, Laura McBain.

The 2017 Victorian Australian of the Year, Paris Aristotle AM, has kindly accepted our invitation to deliver a keynote address. His nomination for this honour recognises his longstanding work with refugees and asylum seekers.

Along with a variety of stimulating workshops the conference will feature EDtalks, a series of short presentations modelled on the TED Talk format. These talks will highlight examples of the creativity and innovation taking place across our Victorian government schools.

The conference is being held on Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 August at the Pullman in Albert Park. Group discounts are available and members are encouraged attend with their leadership team.

The well-known Heiftz and Linsky metaphor that encourages leaders to regularly move from the dance floor to the balcony is perhaps worth remembering. The VASSP conference provides an excellent opportunity to get up onto the balcony – to learn, to think and to reflect in the company of your secondary colleagues.
